ألام على الخلاعة إذ شبابي

ورونق جدَّتي ذهبا جميعا

ورونق جدَّتي ذهبا جميعا

I am blamed for dissipation, now that my youth

and the lustre of my freshness have both departed.

ومن ذهبت بجدته الليالى

ومن ذهبت بجدته الليالى

فلا عجبا اذا أضحى خليعا

فلا عجبا اذا أضحى خليعا

And one whose freshness the nights have carried away—

no wonder if he has become dissolute.
