At the tamarisks, we have a tale of longing grown sweet.

With friends we talked of joy and days gone by,

I pledged to the beloved ones that it was true.

And made a pact to hold their memory.

أصبحت به مستغنيا مشتغلا

ما أعرف انسانا ولا أنسابا

ما أعرف انسانا ولا أنسابا

Through it I have become self-sufficient and absorbed.

Now I'm content, I have no other care,

I know no one, nor any lineages.

I know no kindred and I need not try.
