O companion of my journey, halt, for in this quarter
We once were together—I, youth, union, and Mayy.
أفنىhas exhausted أمدspan الفراقseparation دمعيmy tears ودميand my blood
أفنى أمد الفراق دمعي ودمي
باللهby God عليكupon you فابكso weep منّىin my stead وعليّand over me
بالله عليك فابك منّى وعليّ
Separation’s span has exhausted my tears and my blood.
By God, I implore you: weep in my stead and over me.
