لوif لمdid not يضعhe squander بعضsome of الجميلthe kindness بهجرهby his abandonment
What harm would it do the one who owns my whole heart
It does no harm if the one who owns my heart
if he did not squander some of his kindness by forsaking me?
Turns away for a time and abandons his affection,
فيضمso he would unite شملthe whole جميلهhis kindness وجمالهand his beauty
ويجوزand would be permissible حبthe love محبهof his lover معalong with أجرهits reward
He would thus unite his kindness and his beauty,
Then restores his beautiful union and grace,
and his lover's love would be permissible, along with its reward.
And allows his lover's devotion with reward.

ويطيرهand he sends it flying بصدودهby his rejection منfrom وكرهits nest
Why do I make my entire heart his dwelling,
Why should I complain of him entirely,
while his rejection sends it flying from its nest?
When he startles my heart and drives it from its lair,

A full moon, he has a dwelling in every heart,
He has a full moon in every heart,
veiled by his majesty from its secret depths.
Veiled from his glory, hidden from his secret.

Oh, would that, since my heart was his home,
Oh, if only when my heart became his home,
he would cool some of its heat with his favor!
He would be pleased and quench its burning thirst,

I did not call him the sun, since his rising
I would not name him the sun in his rising,
was only in the darkness of his hair.
But rather the full moon in its gentle light.
منحhe bestowed الغزالthe gazelle ملاحةgrace منfrom لحظهhis glance

He bestowed grace on the gazelle from his glance,
He gave the gazelle a glance of coquetry,
and clothed the sun in a robe of his smiling radiance.
And clothed the lovely gazelle in his radiance,

He dwelt in my heart and kindled his fire
He stayed in my heart and lit his fire,
there, and turned his needy supplicant away from his bounty.
While the roses pleaded in vain for his care.

قدindeed حرتI am bewildered فىamid اذنpermission الحبيبthe beloved وزجرهand his rebuff
His charms beckon, while his rejection repels;
Beautiful traits plead while he spurns them,
I am bewildered between the beloved's consent and his rebuff.
Bewildered, they cry out to the beloved in censure,
يممتI sought خيراsomething better منthan وصالunion with جمالهhis beauty
ويزيدand adds more العذولthe reproacher بسرهwith his secret
I sought something better than union with his beauty,
I wanted more of his beautiful union,
and the reproacher adds more with his secret.
But his disdain only increased his mystery
ياO عاذليmy reproacher ماnot أنتyou إلاbut مذنبa sinner

O my reproacher, you are nothing but a sinner,
Oh critic, you have done no wrong but come,
yet you brought an intercessor by mentioning him.
With a reminder of him as intercessor.
