قولاsay, you two لِفَخْراوَرَto Fakhrawar قَوْلَthe words of امْرِئٍa man
فِيin عِرْضِهِhis honor عاثَhe wreaked havoc وَفِيand in الرِّيشِthe plumage راثْhe defecated
You two, tell Fakhrawar the words of a man
Say to the vainglorious crow, say to him
who ravaged his honor and defecated upon his plumage:
The words of a man whose honor he ruined and whose feathers he plucked.
لَيْسَthere is not لَهُfor him فِيin الصّالِحاتِgood deeds انْبِعاثْan impulse to act
O mountain of heavy baseness, who
O heavy, gloomy mountain that
has no impulse toward good deeds.
Has no hope of salvation or redemption.
ماnot كنْتَyou were أَهْلاًworthy لِرَجائِيof my hope وَلاnor
مِثْلُكَsomeone like you فِيin الْكُرْبَةِdistress مَنْone who يُسْتَغاثْis called upon for help
You were not worthy of my hope, nor
You were never worthy of my hopes, nor
is one like you called upon in distress.
One I would call on for help in time of distress.
لكَّنِنِيbut I كُنْتُI was كَذِيlike one with جَوْعَةٍa bout of hunger
حَلَّتْbecame lawful لَهُfor him الْمَيْتَةُcarrion بَعْدَafter الْثَّلاثْthe three (days)
But I was like one afflicted with hunger,
Yet I was like a starving man
for whom carrion became lawful after three days.
Who after three days eats carrion.
