I said to the cupbearer, as he passed it round—

wine tinted with the color of his cheeks—

I wonder: did he fill it to the brim from his wine-jar,

or, perhaps, fill it to the brim from his eyes?

Or do you see him drinking from his saliva

twice what others drink from his hands?

For I see his limbs bearing witness

that the cup has dealt harshly with him.

If anyone has been maddened by passion for him,

then I have indeed melted with longing for him.
