How beautiful he is as a moon, and you his sky!
O beauty, you are the moon and its sky
You made him rise, and his light dispelled the darkness.
Your radiance dispelled the darkness

in him, and his happiness was hailed as everlasting.
Destiny has blessed him with immortality and eternal bliss

A moon—the moons have fortune enough in being
A moon that outshone all moons in fortune
his likenesses in glory, or his equals.
None can match his glory or equal his stature

He rises and sets in eternity as her equal
forever, as they share his lofty rank.
As she is supreme, so are his peers

إِنَّ النَّبِيهَ نَبِيهَةٌ أَبْناؤُهُ
Your eminence has guaranteed him every virtue;
You have guaranteed his ascension with every virtue
surely the illustrious man's sons are illustrious.
For the Prophet's grandson is as virtuous as his daughter

Whoever has you as his father, his glory has the right
Whoever was your father, it was fit for his glory
to tower high and have its edifice raised.
That it would endure and his edifice be firm

Branches are traced to roots; the best of them
Branches grow toward their roots, the best of them,
and noblest is a branch that traces back to you.
Is a branch that grows toward you, nurtured

Whoever is of the offspring and stock of full moons,
Whoever is of brilliant ancestry and progeny
his radiance and eminence do not go beyond theirs.
Is not daunted by his rise and ascent

لَوْلاكَ أَعْجَزَ ناظِراً نُظَراؤُهُ
And indeed, you have added a third to the two luminaries;
You have made the two brilliances three with a third
but for you, his equals would elude any observer.
Without you, his peers would be confounded

No distinction can be made between them but for

His valor and generosity in virtue

Who could fault the sun, whose light spreads everywhere?
Who would criticize the sun for its brilliance?
Or who could fault the full moon, whose beauty is complete?
Or find fault with the full moon for its splendor?

Yet they are what they are, but for one hopeful
whose pursuits prove fruitless and whose hope is dashed,
Whose hopes were dashed and expectations ruined

With no prospects or means of escape

and time's captive, whose release no one seeks,
A prisoner of fate beyond reprieve
and one slain by poverty, whose revival none foresees?
A victim of poverty with no revival

This age has never been granted a virtue
Never has time granted a grace
like the bounty of Abu al-Yumn, whose giving is abundant.
Like the copious gifts of the generous father of good fortune

For the noble, every malady has a cure

No affliction has come except that

The remedy lies with the sons of Abdullatif

Indeed, al-Muyassar, their star of good fortune:
Good fortune is their guiding star
his evening far outshines the height of morning.
Outshining the radiance of dawn

A son: when the fathers of eminence are vaunted
A son whose ancestors are the sublime
by its children, his own fathers boast of him.
Is outshone by his own fathers

Whoever seeks to emulate his ancestors
in resplendent noble deeds will toil long.
Endures endless hardship in this futile quest

He possessed beauty, so his brilliance shone;
You inherited beauty so its brilliance shone
and bestowed kindness, so his favors overflowed.
And grasped perfection so its gems dazzled

Like a polished sword, the flashes of his wit
on his horizon, and his showers gushed forth.
Illuminated his horizon and his traits sparkled

You were adorned with his gifts, none asked but
without its sheen delighting and its sharpness striking awe.
His splendor overwhelmed and his brightness blinded

Pulpits rise beneath the arch of his foot as he treads them,
The minarets bow to his smallest toe
and his orators exult when those pulpits are ascended.
And the orators wander lost when given his pulpit

The sweet words of praise pale before his true merit
and his praise surpasses the beauty of eulogy.
And eulogies fall short of his due

And it is as though his virtues were his lineage,
His nature and his name are one
and as though his deeds were his names.
His deeds and his titles are the same

He follows his forefathers, his grandfather and father
in calamities, and his unbowed spirit from his father.
In noble deeds and magnanimity

Until you see them through the passage of ages
the age made noble because they are its noble men.
Honored by time as its nobles

Ascend and remain, for no person of rank passes
but that you and he live on for eminence.
Except for your ascendance and his remaining

I have forsaken all mankind for the one
I have forsaken all people for the One
whose affection forsook the dull-witted for the noble-spirited.
Who forsakes the ignorant for the wise and pure

With gratitude - how can one deny the merit of the hopeful
whose enemies attest his dazzling merit?
When even his enemies admit his outstanding grace?

The warrior cannot draw his sword in valor
