O lord of rulers, is there a moment's pause

In which the cloud of your bounty may rain upon me?

Or will time return to me with kindness,

And thereby turn the reins of your favor toward me?

Grant this stricken man a shield against calamities,

And this captive release from afflictions.

Their ravages have done to me what

Your sword-edges did not do to foes on the day of al-Tulayl.

    مَالِي إِلَيْكَ وَسِيلَةٌ إِلاَّكا

    I have sworn not to seek your bounty through an intercessor;

I have no means of reaching you but you.

Jealous for your glory, lest you bestow a blessing

For which someone other than you should be owed thanks.
