وَأَسْفَرَand revealed عَمّاabout what تُحِبُّyou love السَّفَرْthe journey
Fate has yielded to you in all that you seek;
May fate obey you in what you seek,
and travel has unveiled all that you desire.
And may the journey reveal what you love.
وَأَسْعَدَكَand gladdened you اللهَGod بِالْوِرْدِwith arrival مِنْهُfrom it
وأَحْمَدَand made praiseworthy بِالْيُمْنِthrough good fortune مِنْكَfrom you الصَّدَرْthe return
May God bless you in the arrival it brings,
And may God gladden you with the arrival it brings,
and make your departure auspicious and praised.
And make your return praiseworthy through good fortune.
يَزِيدُincreases مَسِيرُكَyour journey ذاone possessing عِزَّةٍmight
كَماjust as ازْدادincreased بِالسَّيْرِthrough movement نُورُthe light القَمَرْthe moon
Your journey adds yet more honor to one already honored,
Your journey makes a mighty man mightier,
as the moon’s light waxes along its course.
Just as the moon's light grew as it moved.
دَعاكَsummoned you الْهُمامُthe noble, resolute man لِنَيْلِto attain الْمَرامِthe desired goal
فَكُنْتَso you were الْحُسامَthe keen sword الْحَمِيدَpraiseworthy الأَثَرْthe effect
The valiant lord summoned you to attain the goal;
The noble, resolute man summoned you to attain the goal,
and you proved the keen sword, praiseworthy in its stroke.
So you were the keen sword, praiseworthy in its effect.
رَأَىsaw ثِقَةُthe trusted man الْمُلْكِthe realm عَوْناًa helper لَهُfor him
فَباتَso he spent the night عَلَىupon ثِقَةٍconfidence بِالظَّفَرْin victory
The realm’s trusted man saw in you an ally for himself,
The realm's trusted man saw in you a helper,
and so lay down assured of victory.
So he passed the night confident of victory.
وَلَمْand did not يَدْعُsummon ذُوone possessing خَطَرٍstanding لِلْمُلِمِّfor the crisis
مِنَof الأَمْرِaffairs إِلاّexcept الْعَظِيمَthe great الْخَطَرْstanding
Nor does a man of consequence call, for what is pressing
And a man of standing summoned no one to face a crisis
among affairs, on any but one of tremendous consequence.
In affairs except a man of great standing.
بَقاؤُكَyour continued life أَشْرَفُthe noblest ماwhat يُرْتَجىis hoped for
وَأَوْبُكَand your return أَبْهَجُthe most gladdening ماwhat يُنْتَظَرْis awaited
Your continued life is the noblest thing one can hope for;
Your continued life is the noblest thing hoped for,
and your homecoming, the most delightful thing awaited.
And your return is the most gladdening thing awaited.
