أَمّاas for أَبُوfather of (Abu) الْيُمْنِgood fortune (al-Yumn) فَلْتَفْخَرْso let it take pride بِهِin him اليمَنُYemen
وَالْفَخْرُand glory وَالدَّهْرُand the ages وَالأَيّامُand the days وَالزَّمَنُand time
As for Abu al-Yumn, let Yemen take pride in him,
Abu Al-Yumn, let Yemen boast of him,
and glory, and the ages, and the days, and time.
Boast of him forever, for all time.
فاقَsurpassed الأَنامَhumankind عَلاءًin eminence والْكِرامَand the noble نَدىًin generosity
وَلَيْسَand it is not مُسْتَنكَراًstrange أَنْthat يَحْسُنَbe good الْحَسَنُal-Hasan ('the good')
He surpassed humankind in eminence, and the noble in generosity;
He surpassed all people in nobility and generosity,
and it is no wonder that al-Hasan should be good.
It is no wonder that the beautiful are beautiful.
أَغَرُّradiant أَزْهَرُresplendent فَيّاضٌoverflowing with bounty لَهُbelonging to him مِنَنٌfavors
لاnot تَسْتَقِلُّcan cope بِأَدْنىwith even the least شكْرِهاthanks for them الْمُنَنَstrengths
Radiant, resplendent, overflowing with bounty, he grants favors
He is the whitest, brightest, blossoming,
for which no strength can muster even the least thanks.
His favors cannot be repaid, though one tries.
تَغَرَّبَwandered abroad الْجُودُgenerosity حَتّىuntil حَلَّsettled فِيin يَدِهِhis hand
فَلَيْسَso there is no لِلْجُودِfor generosity إِلاexcept كَفَّهُhis palm وَطَنُhomeland
Generosity wandered abroad until it settled in his hand;
Generosity became exiled until it settled in his hand,
so generosity has no homeland but his palm.
So generosity has no home but his palm.
