وَيَعْتادُنِيand it revisits me ذِكْراكَthe memory of you فيin كُلِّevery حالَةٍstate
فَتَشْتَفُّنِيso it drains me utterly حَتّىuntil تُهَيِّجَit stirs up وَسْواسِيmy troubled thoughts
And the memory of you revisits me in every state,
Your memory occupies me in every state,
So it drains me utterly, until it stirs my troubled thoughts.
It quenches me until it stirs my worries,
وَأَشْتاقُكُمْand I long for you all وَالْيَأْسُwhile despair بَيْنَbetween جَوانِحِيmy ribs
وَأَبْرَحُand the most agonizing شَوْقٍlonging ماthat which أَقامَabides مَعَwith ألْياسِdespair
And I long for you, while despair lies between my ribs;
And I yearn for you while despair lies in my soul,
And the most agonizing longing is that which abides with despair.
Remaining in passion as long as grief remains,
وَلَوْلاand were it not for الرَّدىdeath ماnot كانَthere would be بِالعَيْشِin life وَصْمَةٌa blemish
وَلَوْلاand were it not for النَّوىparting ماnot كانَthere would be بِالْحُبِّin love مِنْany باسِdistress
And were it not for death, there would be no blemish in life;
And if not for misfortune, life would have no connection,
And were it not for parting, there would be no distress in love.
And if not for purpose, love would have no intimacy.
