وَإِنِّيand indeed I لِلزَّمانِagainst time لَذُوsurely possessed of نِضالٍcombat
فَبِيfor upon me مِنْfrom حَدِّthe sharp point of أَسْهُمِهِits arrows كُلُومُwounds
And indeed I do battle with time,
I am one who struggles with fate,
for I bear wounds from the sharp points of its arrows.
Wounded by its arrows at every turn.
وَسَلاَنِيand made me forget عَنِaway from الأَحْبابِthe loved ones دَهْرٌtime
يَضِيمُoppresses الْحُرَّthe freeborn حادِثُهُits calamity الْغَشُومُruthless
And time has made me forget my loved ones,
Time asks about past friends,
whose ruthless calamities oppress the freeborn.
Cruel is its nature, gloomy its events.
فَقَدْso indeed أَصْبَحْتُI have become لاnot تُجْرِيmakes flow دُمُوعِيmy tears الطُّthe ruins (word begins here)
لُولُcompletion of 'ruins' وَلاnor تُهَيِّجُنِيstirs me الرُّسُومُthe traces
So now my tears are no longer drawn by the ruined
Now my tears flow not from my eyes,
campsites, nor do the traces stir me.
Nor can traditions stir my soul.
