أَلاAh ياO مُحْرِقِيyou who burn me بالنّارِwith fire مَهْلاًgently
كَفانِيis enough for me نارُthe fire of حُبلِّكَlove for you وَاشْتِياقِيand my longing
Ah, you who burn me with fire, be gentle!
The fire of love for you and my longing is enough for me.
فَماfor ... not تَرَكَتْit has left وَحَقَّكَby your worth فِيin فُؤادِيmy heart
وَلاnor جَسَدِيmy body مَكاناًany room لاِحْتِراقِfor burning
For, by your worth, it has left neither in my heart
nor in my body any room for burning.
فَهاso here أَناI مِاثِلٌstanding كَرَمادِlike the ashes of عُودٍa stick
مَضىhas gone مَحْصُولُهُits substance والشَّخصُand the form باقِremains
So here I stand, like the ashes of a stick:
its substance gone, its form remaining.
فَلوْfor, if واصَلْتَنِيyou joined me يَوْماًone day لأَوْدىwould bring death
بِجِسْمِيto my body مَسُّthe touch of جِسْمِكَyour body بِالْعِناقِin an embrace
For, if you joined me one day, death would come
to my body at the touch of yours in an embrace.
تُحَرِّقُنِيyou burn me بِنارِكَwith your fire مُؤْذِناًgiving warning لِيto me
بماof what أَناI فِيكَbecause of you يَوْمَon the day of الْبَيْنِparting لاقِshall face
You burn me with your fire, forewarning me
of what I shall face because of you on the day of parting.
وَنِيرانُand the fires of الصَّبابَةِardent longing بالغِاتٌwill attain
مُرادَكَyour purpose فِيَّin me مِنْfrom قَبْلِbefore الْفِراقِparting
And the fires of longing will accomplish
your purpose in me before our parting.
