ألاAh! لَيْتَif only شِعْرِيmy knowing هَلْwhether أَبِيتَنَّI shall indeed spend the night لَيْلَةًa night
يُرَوِّحُنِيrefreshes me بِالْغُوطَتَيْنِin the two Ghoutas نَسِيمُa breeze
Ah, would that I knew: shall I ever spend a night
Oh, would that I knew if you will spend a night
With a breeze refreshing me in the two Ghoutas?
With the breeze of the two hills to give me relief,
وَهَلْand will يَجْمَعَنَّindeed bring together الْكَأْسُthe cup شَمْلِيmy company بِفِتْيَةٍwith young men
عَلَىupon الْعَيْشِlife مِنْهُمُfrom them نَضْرَةٌfreshness وَنَعِيمُand bliss
And will the cup reunite me with young companions
And if the cup will unite me with a group
From whom life gains freshness and bliss?
Of youths whose lives are fresh and pleasant!
