Each day we have new joy,

And a festival whose beauties never fade,

And a life over which bliss flutters,

And good fortune in which blessings unite,

And a house where generosity pitches its tent,

And a door at which delegations meet.

Through your recovery, O Sharaf al-Dawla,

The beneficiary has gained his happiness.

God has indeed warded harm from you for glory's sake,

And in you generosity was granted what it desired.

So what was hard to seek from it was made easy,

And the distant goal sought from it was brought near.

And that frowning hope grew radiant,

And fugitive consolation was restored to us.

So our festivals have no equal,

And our joys cannot be surpassed.

And how could joy's tent be struck and taken from us,

While you yourself are a festival when the festival ends?

Joy to the days of the age that nurtured you!

Behold, this age is indeed a happy age!

The mother of eminence indeed gave birth to you,

On a day that every other day envies.

So you are a splendid ornament upon the age,

And upon glory you are a securely fastened crown.

You turned its black nights white,

Though once its white days were black.

So live in it as long as you wish, with an ample

Shade of honor stretching far above you.
