You have acquired me, O son of Sayfāʾ, as a dagger,
You possess me, O son of Sifa, a dagger
That delights with its radiance, yet terrifies your foes.
With teeth pleasing, yet frightening to others

For when I am unsheathed, I appear to an onlooker
For if I’m unsheathed, my crescent gleams
As a crescent; and if I strike with my flat, I am destruction.
But sheathed, to you I bring destruction
