لماwhen صفتbecame clear مرآةthe mirror حسنكyour beauty للورىto all mankind
لما صفت مرآة حسنك للورى
ورأىand saw بذاتكin your person منwhoever يراكsees you خيالهhis reflection
ورأى بذاتك من يراك خياله
When the mirror of your beauty became clear to all mankind,
When the mirror portrayed your beauty to creation,
And whoever beheld you saw his own reflection in you,
And he who sees you found in you his imagination,
أبصرتI saw أهدابيmy eyelashes بوجهكupon your face عارضاًcheek-down
أبصرت أهدابي بوجهك عارضاً
وحسبتand I thought إنسانيmy eye’s pupil بخدكon your cheek خالهits mole
وحسبت إنساني بخدك خاله
I saw my eyelashes as cheek-down upon your face,
My eyelashes saw your face eclipsing,
And took my eye’s pupil, reflected on your cheek, for its mole.
And my being fancied your cheek its home.
