من ذهل تذهلني عن المعقول
My father be her ransom: I fell in love with a woman whose union is beyond reach,
By the one who denies me the joy of union I am enthralled
From Dhuhl, who draws me away from reason.
To the point of bewildered wits and lost reason
كالطرفlike al-Ṭarf والإكليلand al-Iklīl أمسىhas become منزلاa lunar station
كالطرف والإكليل أمسى منزلا
منهاfrom her منالattainment الطرفthe eye والإكليلand the crown
منها منال الطرف والإكليل
Like al-Ṭarf and al-Iklīl, it has become a lunar station—
Like eyes and crowns it has become my abode
What the eye and the crown can attain from her.
From it come the attainment of eyes and crowns
