أرى الدهر يظميني وأنتم غبوته

أرى الدهر يظميني وأنتم غبوته

ويرهقني بؤساً ومنكم ليوثه

I see time make me thirst, though you are its rain,

I see time oppressing me, while you are absent

and burden me with misery, though its lions are among you.

And overwhelming me with misery, while you are its lions

ومن جاء ملهوفاً غريباً لبابكم

ومن جاء ملهوفاً غريباً لبابكم

ولم يستغثكم في الورى من يغيثه

ولم يستغثكم في الورى من يغيثه

And whoever comes distressed, a stranger, to your door,

He who comes agitated and a stranger to your door

and has not sought your aid—who among mankind will rescue him?

If he doesn't cry out for your help in the world, who will save him?
