  1. إني لأعجب من صبري وفاقته

    عليك والصبر ما من طبعه السرف

    I marvel indeed at my patience and its poverty

    over you, though extravagance is not in patience’s nature;

  2. ومن تكاثر أجفاني بأدمعها

    كأنها من خليج البحر تغترف

    and at my eyelids brimming with their tears,

    as though they were scooping from a gulf of the sea.
