أراني الظبا والبدر والشهد والدجى
وغصنand the branch النقاthe sand dune الميادswaying والبحرand the sea والبراand the land
وغصن النقا المياد والبحر والبرا
He showed me the gazelles, the full moon, honey, and night's darkness,
The gazelle and moon and honey and dew
and the swaying branch on the sand dune, the sea, and the land;
The youthful bough, sea and land appeared to me
فشبهthus he likened ليfor me عينيهhis two eyes والوجهand the face واللماand the lips' dark hue
فشبه لي عينيه والوجه واللما
وطرتهand his forelock والقدand the stature والكفand the palm والصدراand the chest
وطرته والقد والكف والصدرا
thus giving me likenesses of his eyes, his face, and his dusky lips,
His eyes and face and touch resembled thee
and his forelock, his stature, his palm, and his chest.
