وما رمد في عين حبي لعلة

وما رمد في عين حبي لعلة

ولكنني انبيكم بوجوده

The inflammation in my beloved’s eye is not due to illness;

And the inflammation in my beloved's eye is not due to illness;

rather, I weep that it is there.

But I tell you how it came about:

اراد يرى ما في محياه من سنا

اراد يرى ما في محياه من سنا

فأثر فيه جرم شمس خدوده

فأثر فيه جرم شمس خدوده

It wished to behold the splendor in his countenance,

He wished to see the radiance in his face,

and the orb of the sun of his cheeks left its mark upon it.

So the orb of his cheeks' sun left its mark on him.
