And when the hands of death enfolded Muhammad the

When the hands of fate took Muhammad,

Emir, son of Sayfa, pure in soul and body,

The prince, son of Sayf, pure of soul and body,

تعجبت كيف السيف يغمد في الثرى

تعجبت كيف السيف يغمد في الثرى

وكيف يواري البحر في طية الكفن

وكيف يواري البحر في طية الكفن

I marveled: how could the sword be sheathed in the earth,

I wondered how the sword could be sheathed in the dust

And how could the sea be hidden in a fold of the shroud?

And how the sea could be clothed in the fold of a shroud
