على أنها في الحكم جائرة اللحظ
And she leans away from me with her upright figure,
Leaning away from me with straight posture
Though her glance is unjust in judgment.
Yet unfair in her gaze

لها حالي وهي تعبث باللفظ
I would ransom her with my soul, and I have spent the night complaining
I would give my soul for her though I remain complaining
To her of my plight, while she toys with words.
Of my state as she toys with words

واسود من شعري فقلت لها حظي
She says, 'Have you ever seen anything narrower than my mouth
She says, “Have you seen a mouth narrower than mine
And blacker than my hair?' So I said to her, 'My fortune.'
Or hair darker than mine?” I said to her, “It is my fate.”
