And a young gazelle—I stole a visit to him,
Her lips were sighing as she stole away
as one captive to cares stealthily snatches joy.
Secretly bearing sadness, seeking joy
فقامthen he rose يحيto greet بقهوةwith wine بزغتdawned
فقام يحي بقهوة بزغت
كالشمسlike the sun فيin هالةthe halo of القدحthe cup
كالشمس في هالة القدح
Then he rose to greet me with wine that dawned
So Yahya made some coffee, its first light
like the sun within the cup’s halo.
Like sunrise gleaming in his cup's embrace
تمازجتit mingled بالأناءwith the vessel منbecause of لطفfineness
تمازجت بالأناء من لطف
تمازجlike the mingling of الروحthe soul منهof him بالشبحwith the bodily form
تمازج الروح منه بالشبح
It mingled with the vessel through its fineness,
It mixed inside the vessel, finely fused
as his soul mingles with his bodily form.
