وأوهنand weakened نظميmy verse ثغرهhis mouth بانتظامهthrough its symmetry
And a graceful youth—his necklace loosened the knot of my patience;
Her necklace is my patience's necklace in its knot,
And his mouth, in its symmetry, made my verse seem feeble.
Yet my poem's fabric is weakened by its regularity.
أدارpassed around عليناto us الخمرthe wine منfrom كاسthe cup لحظهof his glance
بأعذبwith the sweetest ألفاظwords وكأسand a cup مدامهof his wine
He passed wine round to us from the cup of his glance,
He passed the wine to us from the cup of an instant,
With the sweetest words and a cup of his wine.
In the sweetest words and never-ending cups.
فواللَهso, by God ماnot أدريI know أمنwhether from كأسthe cup خمرهof his wine
افتضاحيmy disgrace أمor منfrom طرفهhis gaze أمor كلامهhis speech
So, by God, I do not know whether it is from the cup of his wine
By God, I know not whether from his wine's cup
That my disgrace comes, or from his gaze, or his speech.
My disgrace, or from his glances, or his speech.
