Aleppo the Gray has risen on earth

Glorious Aleppo rose high in the land,

Above all cities throughout its regions,

Above all other cities in its quarters,

بقدوم الندب من أربابها

بقدوم الندب من أربابها

والكريم البر من ابرارها

والكريم البر من ابرارها

With the coming of the gallant, one of her lords,

With the arrival of the noble ones among its people,

And the generous, virtuous one among her righteous men:

And the generous, righteous among its virtuous.

الفتى الجودي من حضرته

الفتى الجودي من حضرته

يصغر الجودى عن مقدارها

يصغر الجودى عن مقدارها

The youth al-Judi, whose august presence

The young man of generosity from its court,

Dwarfs Mount Judi in grandeur.

Makes the generous seem small in his feat.

نعم دفتر دار عصر حلها

نعم دفتر دار عصر حلها

كمحل العفو عن اوزارها

كمحل العفو عن اوزارها

Excellent is the age's treasurer who has settled in her,

Yes, the record of the house of this era solved it,

Like the coming of pardon for her sins.

Like the place of pardon for its burdens.

كل ذنب أسلفتنا قبله

كل ذنب أسلفتنا قبله

صورته فيه من أعذارها

صورته فيه من أعذارها

Every wrong she had done us before him,

Every sin we committed before it,

She recast, in him, as one of her excuses.

It pictured therein among its excuses.

ليس يحصى البعض من اوصافه

ليس يحصى البعض من اوصافه

شعرنا والعشر من معشارها

شعرنا والعشر من معشارها

Not even part of his qualities can be counted

It cannot be counted, some of his traits,

By our verse, nor a tenth of their tenth.

Our poetry, even a tenth of its tenth.

وهي لا تحصر في تاريخها

مدح الماجد دفتر دارها

And they cannot be encompassed in their chronogram:

And it cannot be contained in its history,

'Praise of the illustrious one, her treasurer.'

The praise of the glorious, the record of its house.
