I recalled the outcome of every event that befell me;

I recalled my past and all that befell me

So I became certain that patience is a profitable trade.

So I knew patience brings profitable trade

ومن خطل بالرأي ثقفني النهى

ومن خطل بالرأي ثقفني النهى

وزجر النهى هاد لمن ضل واقترى

وزجر النهى هاد لمن ضل واقترى

And reason corrected my errors in judgment;

He who erred in judgement chastened me

And reason's rebuke guides whoever has strayed and wandered.

And warning chastens those who stray and covet

ومذ صرت كالأبريز اخلص سبكه

ومذ صرت كالأبريز اخلص سبكه

فما ساءني اني اباع واشتري

فما ساءني اني اباع واشتري

And since I became like pure gold, refined by smelting,

Since I became pure gold free from alloy

It has not troubled me that I am sold and bought.

It does not grieve me to sell and buy
