O trees of the encampment on the valley’s bank,

May rain water you as you gave drink to the ailing, thirsty one.

For in your shade we had an evening

Whose beauty made me forget the morning of my feast days.

There, good fortune from my days came to my aid,

And the beloved’s company greeted me, bringing me joy.

So, O trees that bore every delight,

Your fruit is sweet, even should you wrong the morning traveler.

So may I, with the gazelle that once felt at ease

In your shade, renew our bond and return time and again?

And my heart is a bird upon the branches of your spreading trees,

It laments and sings, and love is a mourner and a singer.
