He knew with certainty that God is the most generous Neighbor,
He knew for certain that God was the most generous neighbor,
so he resolved to journey from the abode of transience.
So he resolved to depart the abode of mortality.

Though the eyes have been left desolate by his absence, he
If the eyes are left desolate without him, then he
has taken hearts in their stead as a substitute.
Has found in hearts a replacement for them.

Never have I seen companionship, after him, turn to loneliness,
And I have seen no comfort since his passing; it has turned to loneliness,
nor coolness upon the heart’s core become burning thirst.
And coolness upon the livers has turned to burning thirst.
ومنand one who كنwere أيامthe days السرورof joy قصيرةbrief
ومن كن أيام السرور قصيرة
بهin his company كانwas ليلthe night الحزنof grief فيهover him طويلاlong
به كان ليل الحزن فيه طويلا
And whoever’s days of joy were brief
And he whose company made the days of joy brief—
with him—the night of grief over him was long.
Long was the night of grief over him.
