What harm does it do the caravan if I freely shed my tears

    in the dwelling-places between al-Liwa and al-Jizʿ?

And why the reproach, when the heart is mine,

and mine is the passion, and mine are the tears?

O my reproacher, leave me alone, for I

know better than you what harms and benefits me.

How can I heed reproach, when love has blocked

my sight and hearing with passion's weight?

This is love's custom; I am not, in what

I have done out of love for the dwellings, an innovator.
