كَبِّرpronounce the funeral takbir علىover الكُلِّthem all إذاif لمnot يكُنthere is
كَبِّر على الكُلِّ إذا لم يكُن
ليfor me منُهمُfrom them معdespite جودِهِمtheir generosity حَظُّa share
لي منُهمُ مع جودِهِم حَظُّ
Pronounce the funeral takbir over them all if there is no
Celebrate goodness though my share be naught
share for me from them, despite their generosity.
Despite their kindness my harsh heart knows naught
ماwhat نافشعيunclear as written; likely 'of use to me' رقّةُthe gentleness of أخلاقِهمtheir manners
ما نافشعي رقّةُ أخلاقِهم
وقلبُand the heart of دَهريmy fate يابِسٌdry فَظُّharsh
وقلبُ دَهري يابِسٌ فَظُّ
What use is the gentleness of their manners to me,
Their gentle manners bring me no delight
when the heart of my fate is dry and harsh?
