O you, love for whom is worship,

and you, to whom my heart belongs,

and you, of whom I said to my reproachers—

though the crop of reproach does not flourish—

“Had you ever seen, before Mukhtass,

a gazelle that is all musk?”

Be gentle with me, or kill me,

for I do not complain of you.
