إِلاexcept زَمانthe age of صدقهSadaqa
إِلا زَمان صدقه
ذيpossessor of الهممlofty aspirations الموفقهgranted success
ذي الهمم الموفقه
Except the age of Sadaqa,
Except for the era of its truthfulness,
whose lofty aspirations are granted success.
Of sublime aspirations and successes,
ياO مخجلone who shames السحابthe clouds
يا مخجل السحاب
بجودهwith his generosity السكابpouring forth
بجوده السكاب
O shamer of the clouds,
O cloud-concealer of shame
with his pouring generosity!
With your rain-laden clouds,
ياO ذاpossessor of العُلاeminence وَالجودand generosity
يا ذا العُلا وَالجود
وَالبَذلand giving بِالمَوجودwith what is at hand
وَالبَذل بِالمَوجود
O you of eminence and generosity,
O most high, most generous,
and giving of what is at hand,
Giving freely of your bounty,
وَملكand king of الزمانthe age
وَملك الزمان
وَصاحبand companion of القرآنthe Qur'an
وَصاحب القرآن
and king of the age,
Sovereign of the age,
and companion of the Qur'an,
Keeper of the Quran,
وَواهبand giver of الأُلوفthousands
وَواهب الأُلوف
وَخارقand breaker of الصفوفthe battle ranks
وَخارق الصفوف
and giver of thousands,
Granter of thousands upon thousands,
and breaker of battle ranks,
Breacher of ranks,
وَمَعملand wielder of الصفاحsword blades
وَمَعمل الصفاح
وَظالمand oppressor of الرماحspears
وَظالم الرماح
and wielder of sword blades,
Maker of reconciliations,
and oppressor of spears!
Subduer of lances,
ياO ذاpossessor of العَطاياgifts الشامِلهall-embracing
يا ذا العَطايا الشامِله
ياO ذاpossessor of القَضاياjudgments العادِلهjust
يا ذا القَضايا العادِله
O you of all-embracing gifts,
O universal giver of gifts,
O you of just judgments,
O just judge,
ياO ذاpossessor of السجاياvirtues الزاكيهpure
يا ذا السجايا الزاكيه
ياO ذاpossessor of المَساعيendeavors الهادِيهguiding
يا ذا المَساعي الهادِيه
O you of pure virtues,
O pure-natured one,
O you of endeavors that guide,
O rightly-guided patron,
ياO ذاpossessor of الفخارglory الساميlofty
يا ذا الفخار السامي
ياO ذاpossessor of النوالbounty الهاميstreaming
يا ذا النوال الهامي
O you of lofty glory,
O noble pride,
O you of streaming bounty,
O lofty favour,
ياO ذاpossessor of البَنانfingertips الواكفهdripping
يا ذا البَنان الواكفه
ياO ذاpossessor of الظلالshade الوارِفهspreading
يا ذا الظلال الوارِفه
O you of dripping fingertips,
O sheltering shades,
O you of spreading shade!
O encompassing shadows.
لَولاكbut for you ماتَdied الفَضلexcellence
لَولاك ماتَ الفَضل
لَولاكbut for you عَمbecame widespread الأزلprivation
لَولاك عَم الأزل
Were it not for you, excellence would have died.
Without you, virtue would have died,
Were it not for you, privation would have spread.
Without you, time would have encompassed all,
لَولاكbut for you ماتَdied الناسpeople
لَولاك ماتَ الناس
لَولاكbut for you عَمbecame widespread الباسsuffering
لَولاك عَم الباس
Were it not for you, people would have died.
Without you, mankind would have died,
Were it not for you, suffering would have spread.
Without you, misery would have spread.
لَولاكbut for you لَمnot يرعbe fostered الأَدبliterature
لَولاك لَم يرع الأَدب
لَولاكbut for you لَمnot تحمbe protected العَرَبthe Arabs
لَولاك لَم تحم العَرَب
Were it not for you, literature would not have been fostered.
Without you, manners would have vanished,
Were it not for you, the Arabs would not have been protected.
Without you, the Arabs would have been disgraced,
لَولاكbut for you غاضdried up الجودgenerosity
لَولاك غاض الجود
وَاِحتقرand were scorned الوفودdelegations
وَاِحتقر الوفود
Were it not for you, generosity would have dried up,
Without you, generosity would have waned
and delegations would have been scorned.
And delegations been scorned,
لولاكbut for you ماnot كانthere was كَرمgenerosity
لولاك ما كان كَرم
لَولاكbut for you لَمnot ترعbe honored الذممpledges
لَولاك لَم ترع الذمم
Were it not for you, there would have been no generosity.
Without you, no magnanimity would have existed,
Were it not for you, pledges would not have been honored.
Without you, debts of honour would have ceased,
لَولاكbut for you جارdealt unjustly الدهرtime
لَولاك جار الدهر
لَولاكbut for you ماتَdied الحرthe free man
لَولاك ماتَ الحر
Were it not for you, time would have dealt unjustly.
Without you, the age would have been mean,
Were it not for you, the free man would have died.
Without you, gallantry would have died,
لَولاكbut for you خابwas disappointed الآملthe hopeful one
لَولاك خاب الآمل
لولاكbut for you رَدwas turned away السائلthe petitioner
لولاك رَد السائل
Were it not for you, the hopeful would have been disappointed.
Without you, hopes would have been dashed,
Were it not for you, the petitioner would have been turned away.
Without you, the supplicant would have been turned away.
لَولاكbut for you لَمnot يصدقcome true طَمعhope
لَولاك لَم يصدق طَمع
لولاكbut for you ذمتwere disparaged النجعjourneys seeking bounty
لولاك ذمت النجع
Were it not for you, hope would not have come true.
Without you, greed could not have been believed,
Were it not for you, journeys seeking bounty would have been disparaged.
Without you, the community would have been blamed.
بَقيتmay you remain مَحسودenvied for النعمblessings
بَقيت مَحسود النعم
وَدُمتand may you endure مَنصورvictorious العلمthe banner
وَدُمت مَنصور العلم
May you remain envied for your blessings,
May you remain, blessed in your prosperity,
and may you endure with your banner victorious,
Supported in your knowledge,
منfrom اللياليthe nights فيin حرمa sanctuary
من الليالي في حرم
ماas long as لاحshines نجمa star وَنجمand a star
ما لاح نجم وَنجم
safe from the nights within a sanctuary,
Among nights in your sanctuary
as long as star after star shines.
Where star on star has risen,
تَبقىmay you endure عَلىthrough الأَيامthe days
تَبقى عَلى الأَيام
مؤيدupheld الأَعلامthe banners
مؤيد الأَعلام
May you endure through the days,
Enduring through the days,
with your banners upheld,
Aided by your standards,
فيin دَولَةٍa reign مخلدهeverlasting
في دَولَةٍ مخلده
وَنعمةand blessing مجددهrenewed
وَنعمة مجدده
in an everlasting reign,
In an eternal state,
and renewed blessing.
And a renewed favour.
