ولكنّand yet المعلّمَthe teacher ذقنُthe chin of سُرمٍan anus
خفيفُlight الرأسthe head ليسthere is not لهfor him دماغُa brain
But the teacher is an anus's chin,
light-headed, with no brain.
وقدand indeed دبُغتhave been tanned رؤوسهمُtheir heads فأضحتso they became
نواشفَdry قدalready تحيّفَهاhas eaten away at them الدِّباغُtanning
And their heads have been tanned, and have become
dry, eaten away by tanning.
وماand not إنat all (emphasis) كانthere was فيهاin them قطُّever شيءٌanything
فكيفso how تقولُyou say أدركَهاovertook them الفَراغُemptiness
And there was never anything in them,
so how can you say emptiness overtook them?
فماso there is no لعلوِّfor the rise of مثلهِمُtheir like مَجازٌway
ولاnor لنفاقِfor the currency of فضلهمtheir merit مَساغُscope
So there is no way for their like to rise,
nor any scope for their merit to gain currency.
وقدand indeed صيغواthey were cast منfrom الحُمُقِstupidity المنَقّىrefined
ففيهمso in them كلُّevery فاحشةٍabomination تُصاغُis fashioned
And they were cast from refined stupidity,
so in them every abomination is fashioned.
