And no straightened spear, quivering at the joints,

Plunging through kidneys on every day of combat,

Is keener of point than the slender, withered shaft

In your palm on days of battle and of giving.

Nor is the rain cloud with streaming eyes—as though it were

One bidding farewell to a tribe that announced its departure,

Who kept composed before the slanderers, then found

His tears rushing forth as he wept in their wake—

More bountiful in steady rain than the showers of your palm,

Or more lavish with the twin downpours of bounty and gifts.
