لقد ساهرتني عيونُ الدجى

وقد نِمنَ عني عيونُ المِلاح

Indeed, the eyes of darkness have kept vigil with me,

while the eyes of the fair have slept, heedless of me.

إذا ما شكا الليلُ هجرَ الصبَّاح

شكوتُ إلى الليلِ هجرَ الصبِّاحِ

شكوتُ إلى الليلِ هجرَ الصبِّاحِ

When night laments dawn’s desertion,

I lament to night the desertion of the fair.
