منwhoever أنتyou ياO موليLord of الورىhumankind مقصودُهُhis goal
طوبَىblessedness لهfor him قدindeed ساعدتهhave aided him سعودُهُhis good fortunes
Whoever has You as his goal, O Lord of humankind—
Who are you, my Master of the world, for whom
Blessed is he; his good fortunes have aided him.
Blessed is he, his fortune has aided his prosperity,
فليشهدنكso it shall surely behold you لهbelonging to him فؤادٌa heart صادقٌsincere
وشهودُهُand his witnessing قَامَتhave arisen عليهِin support of it شهودُهُits witnesses
So his sincere heart shall surely behold You,
So let a sincere heart bear witness for him,
And his witnessing is attested by its witnesses.
And its witnesses established upon it are its witnesses.
وليفنينand he shall surely vanish عنfrom نفسهhis self ورسومهand his traces
طُرّاًentirely وفيand in ذاكthat الفناءِthe annihilation وجودُهُhis existence
And he shall surely vanish from his self and his traces,
And let him be annihilated from himself and his attributes
Entirely; and in that annihilation lies his existence.
Flying freely, and in that annihilation is his existence.
وليحفظنهand it shall surely guard him بارقٌa lightning flash يرقىascends بِهِwith him
فيin أشرفِthe noblest المعراجِthe ascent ثمthen يعيدُهُit brings him back
And a lightning flash shall surely guard him, bearing him aloft
And protect him with a lightning bolt that takes him
In the noblest ascent, then bringing him back,
To the most noble ascent, then returns him,
حتىuntil يظلَّhe remains وليسand he does not يدريknow دهشةًin bewilderment
تقريبُهُbringing him near المقصودُwhat is intended أَمor تبعيدُهُsending him far away
Until he remains bewildered, unable to tell
Until he remains not knowing in perplexity
Whether the aim is to draw him near or send him far away.
Whether your bringing him close or sending him far.
لكنّهbut he ألقىlaid down السلاحَthe arms مسلِّماًsurrendering
فمرادهso his desire ماwhat أنتyou منهُof him تريدُهُyou desire it
But he has laid down his arms in surrender;
But he has cast down his weapon surrendered,
So his desire is what You desire of him.
So his desire is whatever you want of him.
فلقدfor indeed تساوىhas become equal عندهto him إكرامُهُhis being honored
وهَوَانُهُand his humiliation ومفيدُهُand his benefactor ومُبيدُهُand his destroyer
For, to him, there is no difference between being honored
For to him your honoring him
And being humbled, between his benefactor and his destroyer.
And abasing him, benefiting him and destroying him are equal.
