When you saw the Romans exerting their strength,
When you saw Rome exerting her utmost might,
while the faith was struggling, sorely strained by them,
And religion being fiercely assailed by her,
أمضَيتَyou put into effect فيfor ذاتِthe sake of الإلهِGod ودينِهِand His faith
أمضَيتَ في ذاتِ الإلهِ ودينِهِ

عَزماً له التصويبُ والتصعِيد
you put into effect, for the sake of God and His faith,
You resolved firmly for God and His faith,
a resolve that ranged downward and upward.
To set it upright and raise it aloft;

And you raided Lorca, the stronghold of unbelief, where
And you raided Lorca, the fortress of unbelief,
an obstinate foe from within had defied every plan—
Whose obdurate thoughts had always defied;

a ruthless killer who at every moment kept on
With warriors who never failed to sap
weakening Islam's forces, a stalwart from within it.
The might of Islam, and mar it when waxing;

So you left it a desolate plain, just as
So you left it a waste, a hollow, like dwellings
Thamud left their great dwellings.
Abandoned by Thamud when lightning smote them.

And now you have set the mounts in motion for a resolute undertaking
And now you are spurring your steed to battle
whose nature is attainment and sure aim.
With a host whose goal is fixed and resources sure;

You have readied a victorious army against the Romans,
You have marshalled an army bound for Rome,
and it has hosts of mighty victory.
With squadrons of victors and troops in multitudes.
