فكان كما قال امرؤ القس واصفاً

جواداً كريماً ذا قياد مذلل
Thus he was, as Imru’ al-Qays said, describing
Just as Amr Al-Qais described,
A noble steed, docile to the reins:
A generous, noble steed with a submissive lead,
مكرِّcharging مفرِّretreating مدبرturning away مقبلٍadvancing معاًall at once
مكرِّ مفرِّ مدبر مقبلٍ معاً
كجلمودِlike a boulder صخرٍof rock حطّهcast it down السيلُthe torrent منfrom علِon high
كجلمودِ صخرٍ حطّه السيلُ من علِ
Charging, retreating, turning away and advancing all at once,
Advancing and retreating, wisely led, all at once,
Like a boulder of rock cast down by the torrent from on high.
Like a boulder worn smooth by a torrent from on high.
