The sun has settled at the head of Aries,

and the garden has donned wondrous robes.

So every hillock is a bough upon a sand dune,

swaying as a tipsy man sways.

    And on every rising knoll,

from the yield of their dew-fresh flowers,

    are smiling daisies and narcissi,

    timid, and bashful jasmine.

Thus the sky and the gardens share

a likeness that deceives the beholder’s eye:

with stars like blossoms on the hills,

or the Milky Way, like the stream.

Our image has appeared—how many it contains

of Simāk the Lance-Bearer and the Unarmed!

As though the sun, when it rose,

had scattered those jewels upon the earth.

How delightful is springtime as a king,

come to us amid a mighty host of his beauty!

So you see pearls and rubies already

strung together in his garlanded crown.

    His banners were unfurled, gilded,

    among branches like dark-shafted spears.

    And every rivulet beneath them

has the quiver of a sword in a hero’s hand.

So answer his herald with ready assent,

opening wide the breast of hope and joy.

Spring and the festival have arrived together,

two visitors bringing the bliss to come.

So let us form the strongest bond with gladness,

and drink from fellowship’s purest spring.

For the hills have donned their finery

and adorned themselves after long being unadorned.

And if I could, I would kiss a hand

    created for generosity and kisses:

the hand of the Holder of the Two Vizierates—it is

the wellspring of bounty and the axis of hope,

where the sword of justice has its edges bared,

and the way of right guidance has plainly visible paths.
