O our companions, O companion of the men of letters,
O our companions, O companion of the cultured,
And O finest of writers and poets,
And O elite of writers and poets,
لأعطيتُكُمI would have granted you فَصلَdecisiveness of الخطابِspeech وَوَصلَهُand its joining
لأعطيتُكُم فَصلَ الخطابِ وَوَصلَهُ
فيعجزُso he falls short عنكُمof you واصلُWasil بنson of عَطاءِAta
فيعجزُ عنكُم واصلُ بن عَطاءِ
I would have granted you decisive speech and its connected flow,
I would have given you the introduction and connection of discourse,
So Wasil ibn Ata would be no match for you.
But Wasel ibn Ataa is at a loss before you.
