هامِيpouring forth يَمِينِright hand الجودِgenerosity فيon يومِthe day of النَّدَىbounty
هامِي يَمِينِ الجودِ في يومِ النَّدَى
حاميguardian of عَرِينِthe lair of الحَربِwar يومthe day of هياجtumult
حامي عَرِينِ الحَربِ يوم هياج
His right hand rains generosity on the day of bounty;
Protector of the right in days of giving
He guards war’s lair on the day of tumult.
Defender of the war-den in days of strife
أوor تَلقَهُyou meet him فيon يومِthe day of حَربِwar عَوانِهِhis renewed fighting
أو تَلقَهُ في يومِ حَربِ عَوانِهِ
فالليثُthen the lion صالَcharged علىupon قَطيعِa flock of نِعاجewes
فالليثُ صالَ على قَطيعِ نِعاج
Or, if you meet him on the day of his renewed warfare,
Whether you meet him on days of unruly war
Then the lion charges upon a flock of ewes.
The lion pounces on the flock of lambs
أوor تلقَهُyou meet him فيon يومِthe day of بذلbestowing هِباتِهِhis gifts
أو تلقَهُ في يومِ بذل هِباتِهِ
فالغيثُthen the rain سالَflowed بواكِفِwith a downpour عجاجِroaring
فالغيثُ سالَ بواكِفِ عجاجِ
Or, if you meet him on the day he bestows his gifts,
Or you meet him on days of granting gifts
Then rain pours down in a roaring downpour.
