ألا أيها القلب المعنّى صَبابةً

ألا أيها القلب المعنّى صَبابةً

بربعٍ دريسٍ مُقفِرِ العرصاتِ

بربعٍ دريسٍ مُقفِرِ العرصاتِ

Ah, O heart tormented by longing

at a timeworn dwelling with deserted courtyards,

تسائل عن سُدى وسَلمى سفاهةً

تسائل عن سُدى وسَلمى سفاهةً

وقد مَرَّ عنكَ العمرُ في الغفلاتِ

وقد مَرَّ عنكَ العمرُ في الغفلاتِ

you foolishly ask after Sudā and Salmā,

though your life has passed you by in heedlessness.

تَنَبَّه فصبحُ الشيبِ قد لاحَ مُنذِراً

تَنَبَّه فصبحُ الشيبِ قد لاحَ مُنذِراً

أفِق فإلى كم أنتَ في غمراتِ

أفِق فإلى كم أنتَ في غمراتِ

Awake! The dawn of gray hair has appeared as a warning.

Come to your senses! How long will you remain in the depths of heedlessness?

ولذ بجنابِ المصطفى وكفى بِهِ

ولذ بجنابِ المصطفى وكفى بِهِ

محلَّ الرِّضا والفوز والبركات

محلَّ الرِّضا والفوز والبركات

And seek refuge in the presence of the Chosen One—he suffices

as an abode of favor, triumph, and blessings—

بأكرم محبوبٍ وأوجهِ شافعٍ

بأكرم محبوبٍ وأوجهِ شافعٍ

وأفضلِ ماضٍ في الأنامِ وآتِ

وأفضلِ ماضٍ في الأنامِ وآتِ

in the noblest beloved and the most esteemed intercessor,

the finest of humankind, past and yet to come,

وأهدى دليل للسبيلِ التي بها

وأهدى دليل للسبيلِ التي بها

خلاصكَ يوم الهولِ والحسراتِ

خلاصكَ يوم الهولِ والحسراتِ

and the surest guide to the path through which

comes your deliverance on the day of terror and regrets.
