فكانَ دَرسُ كتابِ الله مُجتَهدا

أولى وأوَّل ما قَدَّمتُ في صِغَرِي

So diligent study of the Book of God was

the worthiest and first thing I undertook in childhood.

فما برحتُ على القرآن مُعتكفاً

فما برحتُ على القرآن مُعتكفاً

مُلازم الذكر في ورد وفي صدر

مُلازم الذكر في ورد وفي صدر

So I never ceased devoting myself to the Qur'an,

keeping to the Reminder in coming and going.

أغدو إلى خِدمَةِ الذكر الحكيم فما

أغدو إلى خِدمَةِ الذكر الحكيم فما

كمثل خِدمَتِهِ فَخرٌ لمفتخر

كمثل خِدمَتِهِ فَخرٌ لمفتخر

I go each morning to serve the Wise Reminder, for no

honor for one seeking honor can match serving it.

وقد ظَفِرتُ بِحِفظٍ منه أحكمه

وقد ظَفِرتُ بِحِفظٍ منه أحكمه

حفظي لأسرع وقت فعل مقتدرِ

حفظي لأسرع وقت فعل مقتدرِ

And I have already learned some of it by heart, mastered

by my memory in the shortest time—a capable person's feat.

وعن قريبٍ بعونش اللهِ أختِمُهُ

وعن قريبٍ بعونش اللهِ أختِمُهُ

فاليوم ليسَ سوى حبِّي له وطرِي

فاليوم ليسَ سوى حبِّي له وطرِي

And soon, with God's help, I shall complete it;

so today, my love for it is my only desire.

وسوف أشفع في يومِ الحساب غداً

وسوف أشفع في يومِ الحساب غداً

به وأكسى ثياب الوشي والحبرِ

به وأكسى ثياب الوشي والحبرِ

And tomorrow, on the Day of Reckoning, I shall intercede

through it, and be clothed in robes of brocade and striped cloth.
