ألا يا ابني الأحبَّ الزاكِيَ الآثارِ

ويا أخي الأغرّ السامي النِّجَارِ

O my son, the virtuous one with glorious deeds,

And O my brother, the most noble and accomplished one,

ومبرزاً في شأو كل فضيلةٍ

ومُشيّداً بنيانَ كل فخارِ

Standing out in every virtue,

And building the structure of all pride,

قسماً وهل في الصبح من شك إذا

ما لاح أبلج ساطع الأنوارِ

I swear by the dawn, is there any doubt

When the bright morning light appears?

لجريت في شأو المكارم سابقاً

سبق الجواد ولات حين تجارِ

I would have raced ahead in the matter of virtues,

Outpacing the generous steed in its prime.
