  1. وبثغر رشفه أعطشني

    حين روّانِيَ من عذبٍ جناه

    And by a mouth—a sip of it made me thirst

    when it quenched me with its sweet fruit.

  2. أنا سابق في الهوى ولا حق

    بَدءه بي وإليّ منتهاه

    I am both forerunner and follower in love;

    it begins with me, and to me comes its end.
