أما الصيام فقد عظّمت حرمته

أما الصيام فقد عظّمت حرمته

بقلب لا غافلٍ عنه ولا وانِ

As for fasting, you have indeed revered its sanctity,

I have glorified the sanctity of fasting

With a heart neither heedless of it nor lax.

With a heart that is neither heedless of it nor fickle

صوماً وصوناً فلا لغوٌ ولا رفثٌ

صوماً وصوناً فلا لغوٌ ولا رفثٌ

فرضاً ونفلاً وترتيلاً لِقرآنِ

Through fasting and self-restraint—neither idle talk nor lewdness—

Fasting and chastity, so no nonsense or lustfulness

Through obligatory and voluntary devotion, and measured recitation of the Qur’an.
