One—may he never have existed!—harbored suspicion

of my beloved, so he kept him under guard.

    له فاكتفناه

He stationed two watchers at the door

for him, and they hemmed him in.

    ولقائي منعاه

And whenever he longed to be near me

and to meet me, they stopped him.

    من السوءٍ فداهُ

May God make his two watchers

    his ransom from harm.

  5. والذي اقرح في الشا

    دن قلبي ولواهُ

And by Him who, over the young gazelle, wounded

    my heart and wrung it:

  6. كل مشتاقٍ إليه

    فمن السوءِ فِداه

    everyone who longs for him

is thus his ransom from harm,

  7. سيما من حالت الأحراس

    من دون مناه

especially one whom the guards have barred

    from attaining his desires.
