ياO مستعيرborrower of سوالفsides of the neck of الخشفِthe fawn
اسمعlisten لحلفةِto an oath صادقone truthful in الحلفِswearing
O you who borrow the fawn’s neck,
listen to the oath of one who swears truly:
إنif لمnot أصحI cry out ليليmy night وياand O حربيmy woe
منbecause of وجنتيكyour two cheeks وفترةand the languor of الطرفِthe gaze
If I do not spend my night crying, ‘Oh, my woe!’
because of your cheeks and the languor of your gaze,
فجحدتthen may I deny ربيmy Lord فضلthe bounty of نعمتهHis blessing
وعبدتهand worship Him أبداًforever علىupon حرفِan edge
then may I deny my Lord His bounteous blessing,
and worship Him forever on the edge of faith.
